Newhaven

Newhaven is one of the most prominent places in Edinburgh. With its recognisable lighthouse and its history with Newhaven fishwives, Newhaven has contributed a lot to Scottish history, particularly to the birth of social documentary photography.

I come from a long line of Newhaveners or ‘Bowtows’ as they are known. Newhaven’s history and heritage has inspired me to document the people and places of this wonderful village, preserving its culture and identity through my photos, people’s stories and Newhaven’s archives for the next generation.

When people in the photography industry think of Newhaven, they think of Hill and Adamson but I want to make sure that people remember Newhaven for it’s enduring sense of culture, people and place.

What started out as taking various snapshots of Newhaven grew into one massive Newhaven photography series filled with different projects that show various aspects of Newhaven’s community.
